That's My Dad. |
Whenever I believe something is fantastic by any means, I instinctively subtitle it as "That's My Dad", since dads are a given synonym for fantastic. Albeit not every father is great, on this website we'll live in our fantasies where everyone's dad goes fishing with you, takes you to strip clubs, concerts and manages to impress your friends with his 96' Impala. That's My Dad: A collection of all things considered, neglected and popularized. |
Sigur Rós - Valtari
Icelandic indie gods Sigur Rós return after four years with their sixth album: “Valtari”, a savory return-to-form for the post-rock band. After getting out some experimental rock jitterbugs out of their system (we’re looking at you, Jónsi), the percussion based compositions are out the window and things are facing towards the ambient side; think “Riceboy Sleeps” but with the emotional intensity of their fourth album “Takk…”. It’s a fulfilling ambient experience, one that frankly breaks from the comforts of being a “Sigur Rós album” or an “ambient record”; “Valtari” proves just how unforgettably poignant the genre can be. Sigur Rós bring forth, for the first time in the band’s history, an accurate blend of their best sonic attributes to the table for a record constructed without any loose ends or non-cohesive emotional structure. A true potential has been harnessed by an already highly achieved artist, making “Valtari” an unmissable hit of 2012 and, quite possibly, the band’s best record to date. (9/10)
