Whenever I believe something is fantastic by any means, I instinctively subtitle it as "That's My Dad", since dads are a given synonym for fantastic. Albeit not every father is great, on this website we'll live in our fantasies where everyone's dad goes fishing with you, takes you to strip clubs, concerts and manages to impress your friends with his 96' Impala. BADBADNOTGOOD - BBNG2
Currently one of most sonically creative underground groups, college trio BADBADNOTGOOD are here to rethink the dynamics of hip-hop/jazz fusion. Think for a moment: hip-hop constantly takes from jazz and uses it as a backing feature, rarely offering anything more than a ‘homage’ label. On “BBNG2”, it’s jazz that yanks hip-hop from its pedestal and throws it to the back-burner; it’s avant-garde jazz-hop, if you will. BADBADNOTGOOD features instrumental covers of artists like Odd Future, Gucci Mane and James Blake along with an array of original, gritty prog-jazz tracks. The end result makes for one of the year’s most intriguing, coolest and inventive (also free) releases. (9/10)
