That's My Dad. |
Whenever I believe something is fantastic by any means, I instinctively subtitle it as "That's My Dad", since dads are a given synonym for fantastic. Albeit not every father is great, on this website we'll live in our fantasies where everyone's dad goes fishing with you, takes you to strip clubs, concerts and manages to impress your friends with his 96' Impala. That's My Dad: A collection of all things considered, neglected and popularized. |
Top 30 Films of 2012 -
Moonrise Kingdom -
At this point, it’s become trite to claim every latest Wes Anderson movie is his best. Each of his films, in a sense, fits fans like their preferred ice cream flavor, which to a bullshit extent, caters to your personality and “says something about you”. All things considered, Anderson sits atop a marvelous decade’s worth of American cult classic films; the only hurdle Anderson has now is to never play the same trick twice. Which is where critics begin to rant and rave: for his consistently in pushing his boundaries further. With “Moonrise Kingdom”, Anderson brings you back into the accustomed territory of his fantastical little imagination but with a self-aware spitefulness this time around.Once the immaculately structured cinematography and the saturated french new wave influences settle in, Anderson picks up his beautifully constructed visual dollhouse and shakes it until all of his cute little playthings (his actors, meaning) must fend for themselves. This allows Anderson, his actors and story-lines room to venture off in uncharted spaces to discover new themes and dynamics to toy around with, producing poetry in the oddest of places. It’s in those little idiosyncratic spaces where “Moonrise Kingdom” finds its voice and comes off as the most poignant piece Anderson has composed. It’s not my “best” Wes Anderson flick, but it sure will be for many. (9/10)

Art-house Recommendation: A Serious Man (2009)
Undeniably the Coen Brothers most subtle, layered and mystifying film to date, A Serious Man is just as off-beat as is dark of a comedy. Complemented with pitch-perfect cinematography and a set of remarkable art-house styled performances, especially lead actor Michael Stuhlbarg, the film serves as an urgent inspection on the human condition in the oddest of places: modern jewish culture. With a stirring amount of thought offered, sincerely from the first frame to the very last, A Serious Man can be the most exciting watch in the most unorthodox of ways. (10/10)

Stylistically impeccable and emotionally captivating, Submarine is a minimalist indie masterpiece that features more precision in every aspect of film-making than anyone else in its genre; even with the likes of Wes Anderson. (9/10)
